It's delightful, if at times heartbreaking, to watch a society of chimpanzees collaborate and interact in ways that are incredibly similar to human beings. It follows the life of an orphaned young Chimp. Phantom of the Rue Morgue (1954) When several women are found mutilated and murdered, the Paris police are baffled as to who the killer may be. Ultimately, not much "happens" in Chimpanzee, but it's still an amazing look at the rare bond between an alpha male and his youngest kin. This Disneynature Chimpanzee DVD is an amazing watch, and every family should have a copy in their library. In the Shadow of Kilimanjaro (1985) Because of a severe drought in Kenya in 1984, ninety thousand starving baboons go on a murderous rampage, killing humans and animals alike. The jungle photography is stunning and backs up a message of motherhood, bonding, friendship, and companionship in the unlikeliest places. When Jack, a sign-language-speaking chimp, makes a break for freedom, his talent for ice skating soon turns him into the local hockey team's secret weapon. That isnt all roses either since Scar is under threat by rivals who wish to replace him as leader as well as the ever looming presence of leopards. ![]() With Bernie, Louie, Mac, Russell Ferrier. His narration doesn't just explain what's happening - it inserts conversations and thoughts like "What an idiot" that are a bit over the top and unnecessary. MVP: Most Valuable Primate: Directed by Robert Vince. While Allen's joke-filled monologue will please some viewers, those who prefer less made-up animal "dialogue" and more straightforward, observational narration will find Allen a tad gimmicky. Where Chimpanzee falters is its narration. Whether it's a close-up of the chimps lazily grooming each other, an action sequence of them executing a Colobus monkey hunt, or just a sweeping pan of the entire forest landscape, the camera work is precise and evocative of a world that most of us will never see in person. Fothergill's team (as viewers learn in the end credits) endured all manner of inconveniences and injuries to capture these intimate shots of the chimpanzees and their surroundings. Nature documentaries are almost always visually dazzling, and Chimpanzee is no exception. ![]() USB was originally designed for computer peripherals: keyboards, mice, external disk drives, printers, scanners, cameras, and the like. Make sure you’re ready to make the most of it! The improvements are many, and we’re living in exciting times to see how USB-C can simplify our lives and work. Work aside, USB-C monitors bring forth a high-quality home cinema experience. Besides, productivity and remaining in the workflow are also heavily dependent on having enough screen space, and USB-C provides just that. Or anyone who seeks a plug-and-play connection for that matter. This point is a boon for all digital artists needing pristine sound and image production. Also, USB-C has better data rates which can drive high-resolution monitors. Then, its bi-directional power capabilities allow for the power flow in both directions, having devices charge each other and power larger displays. For starters, it’s fully reversible, so no matter what side you grab to plug, it’s all the same. USB-C simplifies all things considered (we’ll explain that even more in depth later on). Data flow is bi-directional, but power may only flow from the host to the peripheral or receptor end and, therefore, the cable can only be connected in one way.įurthermore, there are mini and micro versions of both USB-A and USB-B, which causes confusion because users need various different cables for basic use cases and may find it difficult to plug devices in for the first time. The differing form of USB-A and USB-B helps to enforce the mono-directional aspect of these iterations of USB. Just like USB-A, it’s the original designation for the two ends of a non-symmetrical cable. Only one, as the connector is not rotationally symmetrical and both ends are different, corresponding to a different type of port. The odds are you have plenty of USB-A connectors at home and you’re quite familiar with the way the look. USB-A is the most commonly known USB type. Now, USB-C is joining the game and now changing everything. Originally, there were just two USB types, USB-A and USB-B. USB has had several different form specifications for its connectors. What Do I Need to Know About USB-C, USB-B, and USB-A Differences? This flexibility continues to drive improvements in the USB standard and its current model in USB-C. Thus, USB devices are much more interchangeable and can also be hot-swapped. USB interfaces also typically require no additional configuration of data speed, input/output addresses, and memory access channels. That means you daisy-chain monitors to have a seamless viewing experience. ![]() Before USB, users had to contend with an array of different, bulky cables and connectors, such as parallel, serial, VGA, and PS/2 ports for keyboards and mice, which notoriously had the same form factor but were not functionally interchangeable.Ī particular advantage of USB over these previous connections is that it combines data and power, largely avoiding the need for independent power supplies for external devices. This universality has only recently come close to reality with USB-C, but even the initial iterations greatly improved earlier connection technologies. That is, it originally hoped to standardize communication and power sources for computer peripherals. USB’s primary aim is indicated by the universal of the title. ![]() The original standard was released in 1996. That means that the USB standard specifies both the actual form of cabling and connectors and the structure of the data that passes through them. USB, or universal serial bus, is a protocol and hardware standard for digital communications. As the speeds have increased, so has the physical design of the connectors, and the latest form factor, USB-C, marks a significant improvement on USB-A and USB-B. The first version was released in 1996, and the most recent speed upgrade is USB4, released in 2019, though it is not yet widely implemented. Like any technology, it has progressed over time and had various iterations, with significant speed and power improvements. USB is an industry standard for cables and connectors. Or find out how ViewSonic USB-C monitors can bring you a whole host of benefits. Read on to discover how all that changes with USB-C. However, the range of USB connectors leads to possible confusion. USB-C is a more versatile and powerful standard and is set to be the main connector for years to come. The USB-C, USB-B, and USB-A differences are most obvious in their physical form, but the distinctions run much deeper. Rhythmically, the five beats to the bar are split unevenly into 3 + 2 quarter notes that is, the main accents (and chord changes) are on the first and fourth beats. Desmond believed the borderline decision to retain his bridge melody was key to the tune gaining popularity. The song is known for its distinctive two- chord piano/bass vamp (E ♭m-B ♭m 7), cool jazz saxophone melodies, drum solo, and unorthodox meter, from which Dave Brubeck derived its name. According to Alfred Publishing's sheet music published at, the song has a moderately fast tempo of 176 beats per minute. "Take Five" is written in the key of E ♭ minor, in ternary (ABA) form and in quintuple ( 5Ĥ) time. Problems playing this file? See media help. The Quartet first played "Take Five" for a live audience at the Newport Jazz Festival on July 5, 1959. Desmond considered the track a "throwaway". ![]() They successfully recorded the single and the album track in two takes at the next session on July 1. This iteration of the song used a different rhythmic groove than the final version it was "driving and fast" with a "lopsided Latin rhythm". It proved so arduous that, after 40 minutes and more than 20 failed attempts, producer Teo Macero suspended the effort because one or another of the members kept losing the beat. The Quartet first tried recording "Take Five" on June 25, 1959. Desmond composed two melodies, which Brubeck arranged in ternary form. Brubeck delegated Desmond to write a tune using Morello's rhythm. The Quartet's drummer, Joe Morello, frequently soloed in 5Ĥ time and asked Brubeck to compose a new piece to showcase his ability. "Take Five" was composed after most of the album's music had been written. State Department-sponsored tour of Eurasia in 1958 inspired Dave Brubeck to create an album, Time Out, that experimented with odd time signatures like he had encountered abroad. "Take Five" went on to become the biggest-selling jazz single of all time and still receives significant radio airplay. Released as a promotional single in September 1959, the track would not achieve commercial success until it became a sleeper hit in 1961. The track is written in E ♭ minor and is in ternary (ABA) form. ![]() The track's name is derived from its meter. Desmond composed the melodies on Morello's rhythms while Brubeck arranged the song. Staley's struggles with heroin and cocaine were public knowledge long before his 2002 passing as a result of the singer's addiction, the band was unable to tour behind its most successful release to date (1995's eponymous LP), performing only intermittently. Aside from the silver details and the shape of the arc reactor, the only main difference is that the gold sections in the Bleeding Edge are more spread out across the surface, accentuating the fluidness of the design, while the gold sections in the MK 85 are more localized. Joonas Turner (the sound designer of Nuclear Throne) Rogue voice please I beg you Originally posted by Kissa3:Hello there Cal and Da police! Joonas Turner (the sound designer of Nuclear Throne) Hope this clears some of your thoughts over the games soundscape, try to listen to all the crazy sounds and figure out the layers ) Horror uses the same super fast modulation delay as the palace guardians, I think the plugin is called "short delay" that comes with Pro Tools, adjusting the mix/mod speed/depth and delay speeds to find that crazy warbly tone :) Rebel uses reverse reverbs to make her voice ethereal-ish, D-Verb that came with Pro Tools. Robot uses a LO-FI plugin and EQ that came with Pro Tools. The character 'Plant' is a mixture of both my inhaling vocals and bicycle gears rattling and played back with a software called SAMPLR to mimic what i'm doing with the inhales! A stapler was used for the basic starting pistol if I remember correct but I could be wrong, it's been a few years since that sound was originally made for the original jam version >:) The core for Plasma weapons is a kitchen sink gurgling and then having crazy synthesized sweeps on top etc. ![]() ![]() For example the palace guardians who teleport are basically made out of a drum cymbal being vibrated by a hair trimmer moved around the top and then having a really fast delay modulation effect to make it weird and ethereal. ![]() I used to stream sound design streams but now that I moved fully into my studio space streaming has become almost impossible with this setup, as soon as I get a new laptop I might start streaming with that again :)Īctually your example about stapler next to a microphone ain't that far off to be honest, I do most of the sounds by recording various objects and voices to create the sounds. |
